daily reading 50.1 (Philippians 3:1–4)

5-days-a-week through Romans and the letters Paul wrote from Rome in 2024

Our opening prayer for this week:

    On Jordan’s bank the Baptist’s cry
    announces that the Lord is nigh;
    Come, then and listen, for he brings
    good news about the King of kings.

    Then cleansed be every life from sin;
    and furnished for a guest within,
    And let us all our hearts prepare
    for Christ to come and enter there.

    We hail you as our Savior, Lord,
    our Refuge and our great Reward;
    Without your grace we waste away
    like flowers that wither and decay.

    Stretch forth your hand, our health restore,
    and lift us up to fall no more.
    Oh, make your face on us to shine
    and fill the world with love divine.

    All praise to you, eternal Son,
    whose advent has our freedom won,
    whom with the Father we adore
    and Holy Spirit evermore. Amen.

Philippians 3:1–4

  • In addition, my brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord. To write to you again about this is no trouble for me and is a safeguard for you.
  • 2 Watch out for the dogs, watch out for the evil workers, watch out for those who mutilate the flesh.
  • 3 For we are the circumcision, the ones who worship by the Spirit of God, boast in Christ Jesus, and do not put confidence in the flesh— 4 although I have reasons for confidence in the flesh.
helpful notes on Philippians 3:1–4

For yourself pray

  • That in Christ God takes away any confidence you have in your own religious performance

For others pray

  • That by his Spirit God gives new insight, freedom, and gospel hope to any people in your area trapped in legalism

A song to listen to and ponder, as time allows

  • Psalm 144 (YouTube, duet with guitar and violin, "Blest be the Lord, my Rock, my Might")
