daily reading 45.5 (Philemon 8–11)

5-days-a-week through Romans and the letters Paul wrote from Rome in 2024

Our opening prayer for this week:

    Lord, keep us steadfast in your Word;
    Curb those who by deceit or sword
    Would seek to overthrow your Son
    And to destroy all he has done.

    Lord Jesus Christ, your power make known,
    For you are Lord of lords alone;
    Defend your Christendom that we
    May sing your praise eternally.

    O Comforter of priceless worth,
    Send peace and unity on earth.
    Support us in our final strife,
    And lead us out of death to life. Amen.

Philemon 8–11

  • For this reason, although I have great boldness in Christ to command you to do what is right, 9 I appeal to you, instead, on the basis of love. I, Paul, as an elderly man and now also as a prisoner of Christ Jesus, 10 appeal to you for my son, Onesimus. I became his father while I was in chains.
  • 11 Once he was useless to you, but now he is useful both to you and to me.
helpful notes on Philemon 8–11

For yourself pray

  • That God makes you uniquely useful to someone else today

For others pray

  • That love grows and swells in your congregation

A song to listen to and ponder, as time allows

  • Psalm 139 (YouTube, soloist with guitar, "Search me, O God, and know my heart")
