daily reading 44.1 (Colossians 3:22–4:1)
5-days-a-week through Romans and the letters Paul wrote from Rome in 2024
Our opening prayer for this week:
Lo! He comes with clouds descending,
Once for every sinner slain;
Thousand, thousand saints attending
Swell the triumph of his train:
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
God appears on earth to reign.
Every eye shall now behold him
Robed in dreadful majesty;
Those who ridiculed and sold him,
Pierced and nailed him to the tree,
Deeply wailing, deeply wailing,
Shall the true Messiah see.
Every island, sea, and mountain,
Heav’n and earth, shall flee away;
All who hate him must, confounded,
Hear the trumpet sound the day:
Come to judgment! Come to judgment!
Come to judgment! Come away!
Answer your own bride and Spirit,
Hasten, Lord, the general doom!
Heav’n and earth anew, to inherit,
Take your pining exiles home:
All creation, all creation,
Travails! groans! and bids you come!
The dear tokens of his passion
Still his dazzling body bears;
Cause of endless exultation
To his ransomed worshipers;
With what rapture, with what rapture,
Gaze we on those glorious scars!
Yea, Amen! let all adore you,
High on your eternal throne;
Every knee shall bow before you;
Come and take your people home!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
You shall reign and you alone! Amen.
Colossians 3:22–4:1
- Slaves, obey your human masters in everything. Don't work only while being watched, as people-pleasers, but work wholeheartedly, fearing the Lord.
- 23 Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as something done for the Lord and not for people, 24 knowing that you will receive the reward of an inheritance from the Lord. You serve the Lord Christ.
- 25 For the wrongdoer will be paid back for whatever wrong he has done, and there is no favoritism.
- 1 Masters, deal with your slaves justly and fairly, since you know that you too have a Master in heaven.
