daily reading 42.3 (Colossians 2:20–23)

5-days-a-week through Romans and the letters Paul wrote from Rome in 2024

Our opening prayer for this week:

    Abide, O dearest Jesus, Among us with your grace
    That Satan may not harm us, Nor we to sin give place.

    Abide, O dear Redeemer, Among us with your Word.
    And thus now and hereafter True peace and joy afford.

    Abide with heavenly brightness Among us, precious Light;
    Your truth direct and keep us From error’s gloomy night.

    Abide with richest blessings Among us, bounteous Lord;
    Let us in grace and wisdom Grow daily through your Word.

    Abide with your protection Among us, Lord, our Strength,
    Lest world and Satan fell us And overcome at length.

    Abide, O faithful Savior, Among us with your love;
    Grant steadfastness and help us To reach our home above. Amen.

Colossians 2:20–23

  • If you died with Christ to the elements of this world, why do you live as if you still belonged to the world? Why do you submit to regulations: 21 "Don't handle, don't taste, don't touch"?
  • 22 All these regulations refer to what is destined to perish by being used up; they are human commands and doctrines.
  • 23 Although these have a reputation for wisdom by promoting self-made religion, false humility, and severe treatment of the body, they are not of any value in curbing self-indulgence.
helpful notes on Colossians 2:20–23

For yourself pray

  • That God guides you to walk the fine line between adding laws to what God says and subtracting from God's holy will for all people

For others pray

  • That God gives help in Christ to someone you know who is struggling with using pornography

A song to listen to and ponder, as time allows

  • Psalm 130 (YouTube, duet, "Out of the depths I cry to you")
