Our opening prayer for this week:

    Jesus, I my cross have taken, all to leave and follow Thee.
    Destitute, despised, forsaken, Thou from hence my all shall be.
    Perish every fond ambition, all I’ve sought or hoped or known.
    Yet how rich is my condition! God and heaven are still mine own.

    Let the world despise and leave me, they have left my Savior, too.
    Human hearts and looks deceive me; Thou art not, like them, untrue.
    And while Thou shalt smile upon me, God of wisdom, love and might,
    Foes may hate and friends disown me, show Thy face and all is bright.

    Go, then, earthly fame and treasure! Come, disaster, scorn and pain!
    In Thy service, pain is pleasure; with Thy favor, loss is gain.
    I have called Thee, “Abba, Father”; I have set my heart on Thee:
    Storms may howl, and clouds may gather, all must work for good to me. Amen.

Ephesians 6:12–17

  • For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this darkness, against evil, spiritual forces in the heavens.
  • 13 For this reason take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand.
  • 14 Stand, therefore, with truth like a belt around your waist, righteousness like armor on your chest, 15 and your feet sandaled with readiness for the gospel of peace.
  • 16 In every situation take up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
  • 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit—which is the word of God.
