daily reading 20.2 (Romans 11:17–21)

5-days-a-week through Romans and the letters Paul wrote from Rome in 2024

Our opening prayer for today:

Be now our Joy on earth, O Lord,
And be our future great Reward.
        Alleluia! Alleluia!
Then, throned with you forever, we
        Shall praise your name eternally.
        Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

        O risen Christ, ascended Lord,
All praise to you let earth accord.
        Alleluia! Alleluia!
You are, while endless ages run,
With Father and with Spirit One.
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Amen.

Romans 11:17–21

  • Now if some of the branches were broken off, and you, though a wild olive branch, were grafted in among them and have come to share in the rich root of the cultivated olive tree,  18 do not boast that you are better than those branches. But if you do boast— you do not sustain the root, but the root sustains you.
  • 19 Then you will say, "Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in."
  • 20 True enough; they were broken off because of unbelief, but you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but beware, 21 because if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either.
Romans 11:17–21

For yourself pray:

  • That God's threats truly warn you and drive you back to Christ by his Spirit in his word

For others pray:

  • That God spreads the good news of the kingdom of the Son he loves in Finland

A psalm to listen to and ponder, as time allows:

  • Psalm 73 (YouTube, soloist with guitar, "Whom have I in heaven but you?")
