daily reading 35.4 (Ephesians 4:20–24)
5-days-a-week through Romans and the letters Paul wrote from Rome in 2024
Our opening prayer for this week:
Jesus, my Lord, could it be true:
A mortal man, ashamed of you?
Ashamed of you whom angels praise,
Whose glories shine through endless days?
Ashamed of Jesus? Just as soon
Let midnight be ashamed of noon.
’Tis midnight with my soul till he,
Bright Morning Star, bids darkness flee.
Ashamed of Jesus, that dear friend
On whom my hopes of heaven depend?
No, when I blush, be this my shame,
That I no more revere his name.
Ashamed of Jesus? Yes, I may,
When I’ve not guilt to wash away,
No tear to wipe, no good to crave,
No fear to quell, no soul to save.
Till then— nor is my boasting vain—
Till then I boast a Savior slain;
And oh, may this my glory be
That Christ is not ashamed of me. Amen.
Ephesians 4:20–24
- But that is not how you came to know Christ, 21 assuming you heard about him and were taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus, 22 to take off your former way of life, the old self that is corrupted by deceitful desires, 23 to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on the new self, the one created according to God's likeness in righteousness and purity of the truth.
