daily reading 35.3 (Ephesians 4:17–19)

5-days-a-week through Romans and the letters Paul wrote from Rome in 2024

Our opening prayer for this week:

Jesus, my Lord, could it be true:
A mortal man, ashamed of you?
Ashamed of you whom angels praise,
Whose glories shine through endless days?

Ashamed of Jesus? Just as soon
Let midnight be ashamed of noon.
’Tis midnight with my soul till he,
Bright Morning Star, bids darkness flee.

Ashamed of Jesus, that dear friend
On whom my hopes of heaven depend?
No, when I blush, be this my shame,
That I no more revere his name.

Ashamed of Jesus? Yes, I may,
When I’ve not guilt to wash away,
No tear to wipe, no good to crave,
No fear to quell, no soul to save.

Till then— nor is my boasting vain—
    Till then I boast a Savior slain;
And oh, may this my glory be
That Christ is not ashamed of me. Amen.

Ephesians 4:17–19

  • Therefore, I say this and testify in the Lord: You should no longer live as the Gentiles live, in the futility of their thoughts.
  • 18 They are darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them and because of the hardness of their hearts.
  • 19 They became callous and gave themselves over to promiscuity for the practice of every kind of impurity with a desire for more and more.
helpful notes on Ephesians 4:17–19

For yourself pray:

  • That for Jesus' sake you do not become callous to sin

For others pray

  • That God gives someone you know who does not know him true repentance

A song to listen to and ponder, as time allows

  • Psalm 118 (YouTube, duet, "This is the day the Lord has made")
