daily reading 35.2 (Ephesians 4:14–16)

5-days-a-week through Romans and the letters Paul wrote from Rome in 2024

Our opening prayer for this week:

Jesus, my Lord, could it be true:
A mortal man, ashamed of you?
Ashamed of you whom angels praise,
Whose glories shine through endless days?

Ashamed of Jesus? Just as soon
Let midnight be ashamed of noon.
’Tis midnight with my soul till he,
Bright Morning Star, bids darkness flee.

Ashamed of Jesus, that dear friend
On whom my hopes of heaven depend?
No, when I blush, be this my shame,
That I no more revere his name.

Ashamed of Jesus? Yes, I may,
When I’ve not guilt to wash away,
No tear to wipe, no good to crave,
No fear to quell, no soul to save.

Till then— nor is my boasting vain—
    Till then I boast a Savior slain;
And oh, may this my glory be
That Christ is not ashamed of me. Amen.

Ephesians 4:14–16

  • Then we will no longer be little children, tossed by the waves and blown around by every wind of teaching, by human cunning with cleverness in the techniques of deceit.
  • 15  But speaking the truth in love, let us grow in every way into him who is the head— Christ.
  • 16   From him the whole body, fitted and knit together by every supporting ligament, promotes the growth of the body for building up itself in love by the proper working of each individual part.
helpful notes on Ephesians 4:14–16

For yourself pray:

  • That for Jesus' sake, when you are tempted to lie today, you speak the truth, and when you are tempted to be hateful today, you love

For others pray

  • That God spreads the good news of the kingdom of the Son he loves in Luxembourg

A song to listen to and ponder, as time allows

  • Psalm 117 (YouTube, band, "Praise the Lord")
