daily reading 31.3 (Ephesians 2:1–3)

5-days-a-week through Romans and the letters Paul wrote from Rome in 2024

Our opening prayer for this week:

    Praise the One who breaks the darkness
    With a liberating light;
    Praise the One who frees the prisoners,
    Turning blindness into sight.
    Praise the One who preached the gospel,
    Healing every dread disease,
    Calming storms and feeding thousands
    With the Father’s word of peace.

    Praise the One who blessed the children
    With a strong, yet gentle, word;
    Praise the One who drove out demons
    With a piercing, two-edged sword.
    Praise the One who brings cool water
    To the desert’s burning sand;
    From this well comes living water,
    Quenching thirst in every land.

    Let us praise the Word incarnate,
    Christ, who suffered in our place;
    Jesus died and rose victorious
    That we may know God by grace.
    Let us sing for joy and gladness
    Seeing what our God has done;
    Let us praise the true Redeemer,
    Praise the One who makes us one. Amen.

Ephesians 2:1–3

  • And you were dead in your trespasses and sins 2 in which you previously lived according to the ways of this world, according to the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit now working in the disobedient.
  • 3 We too all previously lived among them in our fleshly desires, carrying out the inclinations of our flesh and thoughts, and we were by nature children under wrath as the others were also.
helpful notes on Ephesians 2:1–3

For yourself pray:

  • That God through Christ keeps you from Satan's power

For others pray:

  • That for Jesus' sake God gets through to your country about its inborn helplessness and sinfulness
  • (U.S. background: In 2022 Lifeway and Ligonier found that 71% of Americans agreed with, and only 21% of Americans disagreed with "Everyone is born innocent in the eyes of God." 65% of Evangelicals surveyed agreed, and 32% disagreed.)

A song to listen to and ponder, as time allows:

  • Psalm 105 (YouTube, soloist with guitar, "Give thanks to the Lord")
