Our opening prayer for this week:

    I praise you, Lord: Above my foes
    You raised my head in triumph high,
    Not slow to mark my secret woes,
    Nor deaf to my desponding cry.
    I praise you, Lord; my heart was faint,
    My feet were sinking to the grave,
    But you were near to my complaint,
    To hear, to heal me, and to save.

    A moment, and your anger dies;
    Your grace is life for evermore:
    The sun may set on weeping eyes,
    But joy returns when night is o’er.
    In song before the Lord rejoice,
    His praise let all his saints proclaim,
    And still, with thankful heart and voice,
    Give glory to his holy name.

    In prosp’rous times I dared to say
    “My mountain stands forever sure.”
    But when you turned your face away—
    O grief too heavy to endure!
    And then I raised my voice in prayer:
    “Lord, to my misery attend;
    In pity yet your servant spare,
    And be my Helper, and my Friend.

    “What profit in my blood is found?
    What voices from the tomb are heard?
    Can dust to distant years resound
    The mercies of your faithful word?”
    What joy for mourning you have giv’n, 
    That I may thank you all my days,
    That every saint in earth and heaven
    May swell the Lamb’s eternal praise. Amen.

Romans 15:25–27

  • Right now I am traveling to Jerusalem to serve the saints, 26 because Macedonia and Achaia were pleased to make a contribution for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem.
  • 27 Yes, they were pleased, and indeed are indebted to them. For if the Gentiles have shared in their spiritual benefits, then they are obligated to minister to them in material needs.
