daily reading 24.2 (Romans 14:1–4)

5-days-a-week through Romans and the letters Paul wrote from Rome in 2024

Our opening prayer for this week:

    In Adam we have all been one, One huge rebellious man;
We all have fled that evening voice That sought us as we ran.

We fled our God, and losing him, We lost our brother, too.
Each singly sought and claimed his own; Each man his brother slew.

But your strong love, it sought us still, And sent your only Son
That we might hear his shepherd-voice And, hearing him, be one.

O Savior, when we loved you not, You loved and saved us all.
O great good Shepherd of mankind, Oh, hear us when we call.

Send us your Spirit; teach us truth To purge our vanity.
From fancied wisdom, self-sought ways, O Savior, set us free. Amen.

Romans 14:1–4

  • Accept anyone who is weak in faith, but don't argue about disputed matters.
  • 2 One person believes he may eat anything, while one who is weak eats only vegetables.
  • 3 One who eats must not look down on one who does not eat, and one who does not eat must not judge one who does, because God has accepted him.
  •  4 Who are you to judge another's household servant? Before his own Lord he stands or falls. And he will stand, because the Lord is able to make him stand.
helpful notes on Romans 14:1–4

For yourself pray:

  • That God gives you wisdom when it comes to what he has not commanded or forbidden

For others pray:

  • That God spreads the good news of the kingdom of the Son he loves on the island of Gibraltar

A psalm to listen to and ponder, as time allows:

  • Psalm 87 (YouTube, duet, "All my fountains are in you.")
