daily reading 23.4 (Romans 13:6–7)

5-days-a-week through Romans and the letters Paul wrote from Rome in 2024

Our opening prayer for this week:

Precious Lord, take my hand, Lead me on, let me stand,
    I am tired, I am weak, I am worn;
Through the storm, through the night, Lead me on to the light:
Take my hand, precious Lord, Lead me home.

When my way grows drear, Precious Lord, linger near,
When my life is almost gone,
Hear my cry, hear my call, Hold my hand lest I fall:
Take my hand, precious Lord, Lead me home.

When the darkness appears And the night draws near,
And the day is past and gone,
At the river I stand, Guide my feet, hold my hand:
Take my hand, precious Lord, Lead me home. Amen.

Romans 13:6–7

  • And for this reason you pay taxes, since the authorities are God's servants, continually attending to these tasks.
  • 7 Pay your obligations to everyone: taxes to those you owe taxes, tolls to those you owe tolls, respect to those you owe respect, and honor to those you owe honor.
helpful notes on Romans 13:6–7

For yourself pray:

  • That God gives you wisdom in Christ for what to do if someone in government does not deserve obedience or honor

For others pray:

  • That military, government, and other public service veterans in your area get honor from the rest of your community

A psalm to listen to and ponder, as time allows:

  • Psalm 84 (YouTube, duet, "Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere.")
