daily reading 23.1 (Romans 13:1–2)

5-days-a-week through Romans and the letters Paul wrote from Rome in 2024

Our opening prayer for this week:

Precious Lord, take my hand, Lead me on, let me stand,
    I am tired, I am weak, I am worn;
Through the storm, through the night, Lead me on to the light:
Take my hand, precious Lord, Lead me home.

When my way grows drear, Precious Lord, linger near,
When my life is almost gone,
Hear my cry, hear my call, Hold my hand lest I fall:
Take my hand, precious Lord, Lead me home.

When the darkness appears And the night draws near,
And the day is past and gone,
At the river I stand, Guide my feet, hold my hand:
Take my hand, precious Lord, Lead me home.

Romans 13:1–2

  • Let everyone submit to the governing authorities, since there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are instituted by God.
  • So then, the one who resists the authority is opposing God's command, and those who oppose it will bring judgment on themselves.
helpful notes on Romans 13:1–2

For yourself pray:

  • That for Jesus' sake you gladly consider all authority over you as from God

For others pray:

  • That God blesses couples about to get married with lifelong love and faithfulness

A psalm to listen to and ponder, as time allows:

  • Psalm 81 (YouTube, duet, "Sing aloud to God our strength.")
