daily reading 19.2 (Romans 10:19–21)
5-days-a-week through Romans and the letters Paul wrote from Rome in 2024
Our opening prayer for today:
God of grace and God of glory,
On your people pour your power;
Crown your ancient Church’s story;
Bring its bud to glorious flower.
Grant us wisdom; grant us courage
For the facing of this hour,
For the facing of this hour.
Lo, the hosts of evil round us
Scorn the Christ, assail his ways.
From our fears that long have bound us,
Free our hearts to faith and praise.
Grant us wisdom; grant us courage
For the living of these days,
For the living of these days.
Cure your children’s warring madness;
Bend our pride to your control;
Shame our wanton, selfish gladness,
Rich in things and poor in soul.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage
Lest we miss your kingdom’s goal,
Lest we miss your kingdom’s goal.
Save us from weak resignation
To the evils we deplore;
Let the gift of your salvation
Be our glory evermore.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
Serving you whom we adore,
Serving you whom we adore. Amen.
Romans 10:19–21
- But I ask, "Did Israel not understand?"
- First, Moses said, I will make you jealous of those who are not a nation; I will make you angry by a nation that lacks understanding.
- 20 And Isaiah says boldly, I was found by those who were not looking for me; I revealed myself to those who were not asking for me.
- 21 But to Israel he says, All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and defiant people.
Romans 10:19–21
For yourself pray:
- That in Christ God is patient with your disobedience/defiance
For others pray:
- That God spreads the good news of the kingdom of the Son he loves on the Faroe Islands
A psalm to listen to and ponder, as time allows:
- Psalm 70 (YouTube, duet, "Hasten to me")
