daily reading 18.3 (Romans 10:5–10)
5-days-a-week through Romans and the letters Paul wrote from Rome in 2024
Our opening prayer for today:
“I am the Vine; my Father is the Gardener.
Each branch that bears no fruit, he cuts away;
While every branch that yields good fruit, he trims and cleans,
So that it will produce more every day.
Now you are clean because of all to you I spoke.
Remain in me; I will remain in you.
Just as a branch without the vine will yield no grapes,
So keep abiding in me, that you bear fruit too.
“I am the Vine; if you, like branches, stay in me
And I in you, you will yield much, in turn.
Apart from me, you will accomplish not a thing,
But be a branch that withers and is burned.
If you remain in me, and my words stay within,
Ask what you wish; it will be given you."
God now be glorified in me. Let me bring forth much fruit,
Proving I am my Lord's disciple, through and through.” Amen.
Romans 10:5–10
- Moses writes this about the righteousness that is by the law: "The person who does these things will live by them."
- 6 But the righteousness that is by faith says: "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?'" (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 "or 'Who will descend into the deep?'" (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).
- 8 But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: 9 If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
- 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
Romans 10:5–10
For yourself pray:
- That God takes away your self-righteous pride and fear
For others pray:
- That God moves someone you know to start confessing with his/her mouth that Jesus is Lord and start believing in his/her heart that God raised him from the dead
A psalm to listen to and ponder, as time allows:
- Psalm 69 (YouTube, soloist with guitar, "Save me")
