daily reading 16.3 (Romans 9:1–5)

 5-days-a-week through Romans and the letters Paul wrote from Rome in 2024

Our opening prayer for today:

    Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
    The strife is o’er, the battle done;
    Now is the victor’s triumph won;
    Now be the song of praise begun. Alleluia!

    Death’s mightiest powers have done their worst,
    And Jesus has his foes dispersed;
    Let shouts of praise and joy outburst. Alleluia!

    On the third morn he rose again
    Glorious in majesty to reign;
    Oh, let us swell the joyful strain! Alleluia!

    He closed the yawning gates of hell;
    The bars from heav’n’s high portals fell.
    Let songs of praise his triumph tell. Alleluia!

    Lord, by the stripes which wounded you,
    From death’s sting free your servants, too,
    That we may live and sing to you. Alleluia!
    Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!Amen.

Romans 9:1–5

  • I speak the truth in Christ-- I am not lying; my conscience testifies to me through the Holy Spirit— 2 that I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart.
  • 3 For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the benefit of my brothers and sisters, my own flesh and blood.
  •  4 They are Israelites, and to them belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the temple service, and the promises.
  •  5 The ancestors are theirs, and from them, by physical descent, came the Christ, who is God over all, praised forever. Amen.
Helpful notes on Romans 9:1–5

For yourself pray:

  • That God gives you a deeper heart for the salvation of your countrymen and women

For others pray:

  • That God spreads the good news of the kingdom of the Son he loves in Czechia

A psalm to listen to and ponder, as time allows:

  • Psalm 63 (YouTube, band, "I seek for you, my Lord. My soul thirsts for you.")
