daily reading 12.3 (Romans 7:5–6)
5-days-a-week through Romans and the letters Paul wrote from Rome in 2024
Our opening prayer for this week:
What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul!
What wondrous love is this, O my soul!
What wondrous love is this that caused the Lord of bliss
To bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul,
To bear the dreadful curse for my soul.
When I was sinking down, sinking down, sinking down,
When I was sinking down, sinking down,
When I was sinking down beneath God’s righteous frown,
Christ laid aside his crown for my soul, for my soul,
Christ laid aside his crown for my soul.
To God and to the Lamb, I will sing, I will sing;
To God and to the Lamb, I will sing.
To God and to the Lamb Who is the great “I Am”;
While millions join the theme, I will sing, I will sing;
While millions join the theme, I will sing.
And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on;
And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on.
And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing and joyful be;
And through eternity, I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on;
And through eternity, I’ll sing on. Amen.
Romans 7:5–6
- For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions aroused through the law were working in us to bear fruit for death.
- 6 But now we have been released from the law, since we have died to what held us, so that we may serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the old letter of the law.
Helpful notes on Romans 7:5–6
For yourself pray:
- That you serve God and your neighbor in the newness of the Spirit
For others pray:
- That God gives healing to someone you know who has struggled recently
A psalm to listen to and ponder, as time allows:
- Psalm 44 (YouTube, soloist with guitar, "Call forth your salvation.")
