daily reading 7.5 (Romans 4:13–15)
5-days-a-week through Romans and the letters Paul wrote from Rome in 2024
Our opening prayer for this week:
O Splendor of God's glory bright,
You daily bring forth light from light.
O Light from Light, light's fountain-spring,
O Day, our days enlightening:
Come, very Sun of truth and love,
Come in your radiance from above,
And shed the Holy Spirit's ray
On all we think or do today.
Teach us to work with all our pow'r
To conquer in temptation's hour.
Let faith her eager fires renew
And hate the false and love the true.
Oh, joyful be the livelong day,
Our thoughts as pure as morning ray,
Our faith like noonday's glowing height,
Our souls undimmed by shades of night.
All praise to God the Father be,
All praise to Christ eternally,
Whom with the Spirit we adore
Forever and forevermore.
Romans 4:13–15
- For the promise to Abraham or to his descendants that he would inherit the world was not through the law, but through the righteousness that comes by faith.
- 14 If those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made empty and the promise nullified, 15 because the law produces wrath. And where there is no law, there is no transgression.
Helpful notes on Romans 4:13–15
For yourself pray:
- That with Christ, due to Christ, you inherit the world (for Christ)
For others pray:
- That God gives patience, wisdom, and kindness to the school teachers in your community
A psalm to listen to and ponder, as time allows:
- Psalm 27 (YouTube, duet, "There is one thing I ask of the Lord ...")
