daily reading 2.5 (Romans 1:26–27)

5-days-a-week through Romans and the letters Paul wrote from Rome in 2024

Our opening prayer for this week:

As with gladness, men of old
Did the guiding star behold
As with joy they hailed its light
Leading onward, beaming bright
So, most glorious Lord, may we
Evermore your followers be.

As with joyful steps they sped
To that lowly manger bed
There to bend the knee before
You whom heaven and earth adore;
So may we with willing feet
Ever seek your mercy seat.

As they offered gifts most rare
At that manger rude and bare;
So may we with holy joy,
Pure and free from sin’s alloy,
All our costliest treasures bring,
Christ, to you, our heavenly King.

Holy Jesus, every day
Keep us in the narrow way;
And, when earthly things are past,
Bring our ransomed souls at last
Where they need no star to guide,
Where no clouds your glory hide.

In the heavenly country bright,
We will not need sun or light;
You its Light, its Joy, its Crown,
You its Sun not going down;
There forever may we sing
Alleluias to our King!

Romans 1:26–27

  • For this reason God delivered them over to disgraceful passions. Their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones.
  • 27  The men in the same way also left natural relations with women and were inflamed in their lust for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in their own persons the appropriate penalty of their error.
Helpful notes on Romans 1:26–27

For yourself pray:

  • That God gives you peace when you are lying awake and can't sleep

For others pray:

  • That God is patient and gives his Word and his Spirit to someone you know who is caught in sin

A psalm to listen to and ponder, as time allows:

  • Psalm 10 (YouTube, duet, "Surely you will hear our cries.")
