daily reading 37.4 (Ephesians 5:25–27)

5-days-a-week through Romans and the letters Paul wrote from Rome in 2024

Our opening prayer for this week:

Glory alone to the God of all grace.
    Glory alone to Jesus.
"Let there be light," God said, "and there was light."
Yes, God made all light through Jesus.
So saints of old rejoiced as they sang,
"O sleeper, wake up! From the dead arise
For then the Messiah will shine out on you!"
Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus.

Glory alone to the God of all grace.
    Glory alone to Jesus.
He died for us in dread darkness and shame,
Then he came alive. God raised Jesus!
So saints of old rejoiced as they sang,
"O sleeper, wake up! From the dead arise
For then the Messiah will shine out on you!"
Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus. Amen.

Ephesians 5:25–27

  • Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her with the washing of water by the word.
  • 27 He did this to present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or anything like that, but holy and blameless.
helpful notes on Ephesians 5:25–27

For yourself pray:

  • That by your baptism into Christ God gives you great joy, with no fear of any secret shame

For others pray

  • That God strengthens the husbands and future husbands of your congregation

A song to listen to and ponder, as time allows

  • Psalm 119, teth (YouTube, duet, "The law of your mouth is better to me than thousands of pieces of silver and gold")
