daily reading 37.1 (Ephesians 5:15–17)

5-days-a-week through Romans and the letters Paul wrote from Rome in 2024

Our opening prayer for this week:

Glory alone to the God of all grace.
    Glory alone to Jesus.
"Let there be light," God said, "and there was light."
Yes, God made all light through Jesus.
So saints of old rejoiced as they sang,
"O sleeper, wake up! From the dead arise
For then the Messiah will shine out on you!"
Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus.

Glory alone to the God of all grace.
    Glory alone to Jesus.
He died for us in dread darkness and shame,
Then he came alive. God raised Jesus!
So saints of old rejoiced as they sang,
"O sleeper, wake up! From the dead arise
For then the Messiah will shine out on you!"
Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus. Amen.

Ephesians 5:15–17

  • Pay careful attention, then, to how you live — not as unwise people but as wise — 16 making the most of the time, because the days are evil.
  • 17 So don't be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is.
helpful notes on Ephesians 5:15–17

For yourself pray:

  • That God makes you much more wise, since the days are so evil

For others pray

  • That God moves by his Spirit in your congregation so that you make the most of the opportunities God is putting before you

A song to listen to and ponder, as time allows

  • Psalm 119, vav (YouTube, duet, "Let your steadfast love come to me, O Lord")
