daily reading 36.3 (Ephesians 5:3–7)

5-days-a-week through Romans and the letters Paul wrote from Rome in 2024

Our opening prayer for this week:

Lord, one thing I ask you:
    hold in check my pride,
    as a child obedient
    at its mother's side.

    All your sons and daughters
    to your heart are dear:
    let us now and always
    trust, and never fear. Amen.

Ephesians 5:3–7

  • But sexual immorality and any impurity or greed should not even be heard of among you, as is proper for saints.
  • 4 Obscene and foolish talking or crude joking are not suitable, but rather giving thanks.
  • 5 For know and recognize this: Every sexually immoral or impure or greedy person, who is an idolater, does not have an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
  • 6 Let no one deceive you with empty arguments, for God's wrath is coming on the disobedient because of these things.
  • 7 Therefore, do not become their partners.
helpful notes on Ephesians 5:3–7

For yourself pray:

  • That God helps you speak only in clean, helpful ways

For others pray

  • That God keeps your congregation from being deceived by anyone's empty words

A song to listen to and ponder, as time allows

  • Psalm 119 (YouTube, duet, "Open my eyes that I may behold wondrous things in your law")
