daily 19.1 (Romans 10:16–18)

5-days-a-week through Romans and the letters Paul wrote from Rome in 2024

Our opening prayer for today:

        God of grace and God of glory,
On your people pour your power;
Crown your ancient Church’s story;
Bring its bud to glorious flower.
Grant us wisdom; grant us courage
For the facing of this hour,
    For the facing of this hour.

Lo, the hosts of evil round us
Scorn the Christ, assail his ways.
From our fears that long have bound us,
Free our hearts to faith and praise.
Grant us wisdom; grant us courage
        For the living of these days,
    For the living of these days.

Cure your children’s warring madness;
Bend our pride to your control;
Shame our wanton, selfish gladness,
Rich in things and poor in soul.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage
Lest we miss your kingdom’s goal,
    Lest we miss your kingdom’s goal.

Save us from weak resignation
To the evils we deplore;
Let the gift of your salvation
Be our glory evermore.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
Serving you whom we adore,
    Serving you whom we adore. Amen.

Romans 10:16–18

  • But not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, Lord, who has believed our message?
  • 17 So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the message about Christ.
  • 18 But I ask, "Did they not hear?" Yes, they did: Their voice has gone out to the whole earth, and their words to the ends of the world.
Romans 10:16–18

For yourself pray:

  • That God builds your faith in Jesus through his word

For others pray:

  • That God gives wisdom and love to those preparing to be missionaries

A psalm to listen to and ponder, as time allows:

  • Psalm 70 (YouTube, duet, "Quickly come")
