daily reading 16.5 (Romans 9:10–13)
5-days-a-week through Romans and the letters Paul wrote from Rome in 2024
Our opening prayer for today:
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
The strife is o’er, the battle done;
Now is the victor’s triumph won;
Now be the song of praise begun. Alleluia!
Death’s mightiest powers have done their worst,
And Jesus has his foes dispersed;
Let shouts of praise and joy outburst. Alleluia!
On the third morn he rose again
Glorious in majesty to reign;
Oh, let us swell the joyful strain! Alleluia!
He closed the yawning gates of hell;
The bars from heav’n’s high portals fell.
Let songs of praise his triumph tell. Alleluia!
Lord, by the stripes which wounded you,
From death’s sting free your servants, too,
That we may live and sing to you. Alleluia!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!Amen.
Romans 9:10–13
- And not only that, but Rebekah conceived children through one man, our father Isaac.
- 11 For though her sons had not been born yet or done anything good or bad, so that God's purpose according to election might stand— 12 not from works but from the one who calls— she was told, The older will serve the younger.
- 13 As it is written: I have loved Jacob, but I have hated Esau.
Helpful notes on Romans 9:10–13
For yourself pray:
- That God gives you joy in his choosing you to believe and calling you to believe, without you doing anything
For others pray:
- That God brings someone you know who isn't even sure if God is there to trust in him and his Son Jesus
A psalm to listen to and ponder, as time allows:
- Psalm 65 (YouTube, duet, "How blessed is the one whom you choose to bring near to you.")
