daily reading 16.4 (Romans 9:6–9)
5-days-a-week through Romans and the letters Paul wrote from Rome in 2024
Our opening prayer for today:
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
The strife is o’er, the battle done;
Now is the victor’s triumph won;
Now be the song of praise begun. Alleluia!
Death’s mightiest powers have done their worst,
And Jesus has his foes dispersed;
Let shouts of praise and joy outburst. Alleluia!
On the third morn he rose again
Glorious in majesty to reign;
Oh, let us swell the joyful strain! Alleluia!
He closed the yawning gates of hell;
The bars from heav’n’s high portals fell.
Let songs of praise his triumph tell. Alleluia!
Lord, by the stripes which wounded you,
From death’s sting free your servants, too,
That we may live and sing to you. Alleluia!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!Amen.
Romans 9:6–9
- Now it is not as though the word of God has failed, because not all who are descended from Israel are Israel.
- 7 Neither are all of Abraham's children his descendants. On the contrary, your offspring will be traced through Isaac.
- 8 That is, it is not the children by physical descent who are God's children, but the children of the promise are considered to be the offspring.
- 9 For this is the statement of the promise: At this time I will come, and Sarah will have a son.
